Preliminary Meeting and Mid-autumn Festival Banquet of DEVNET Pavilion Successfully Held

On September 29, 2009, Preliminary Meeting and Mid-autumn Festival Banquet of DEVNET Pavilion, organized by the pavilion committee, is successfully held in Hilton Hotel in Shanghai. Commissioner General of DEVNET Pavilion, director of DEVNET Affairs Coordination Bureau, executive director of DEVNET Pavilion and vice director of the Bureau, together with over 200 government and enterprise representatives attended the banquet. Mr. Daniel Barrios, general director of DEVNET international, came specially from Rome, Italy, for support and guidance to DEVNET Pavilion.

In his speech, Mr. Gao first extended his appreciation for everybody’s participation and consistent support, then introduced basic information and preparatory work of DEVNET Pavilion. According to him, DEVNET became one of the first participants receiving the keys from Bureau of Shanghai World Expo on the Fourth Session of Participants meeting held on Sept. 23rd, 2009. Meanwhile, a series of major events and activities relating to DEVNET Pavilion theme and Expo theme were announced. These events and activities shall be a very good demonstration of the theme of “Better Life” as well as the glamour of World Expo. Then Mr. Gao gave some information about Winner project and some new partners of DEVNET Pavilion. He wishes that DEVNET Pavilion will become a stage for companies all over the world to share the opportunity of world expo through displaying their latest achievement in high-and-new technology development, company culture, company philoshophy.

At the arrival of 2010 World Expo, DEVNET Pavilion reveals for the first time some of its events and forums, like Memorial Ceremony for Michael Jackson, 10th Anniversary for the launching of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, Mei Lanfang International Award Ceremony, etc. Moreover, many international cooperation projects would be displayed and introduced in DEVNET Pavilion, including those which have already been settled in some places in China.

As one of the first participants receiving the keys from Bureau of Shanghai World Expo, the work of DEVNET Pavilion is under well preparation for the early opening. To thank Chinese government and Bureau of Shanghai World Expo, DEVNET Pavilion is confident to display its best self to the world expo. As what Mr. Vincente Losavales, secretary general of Bureau of International Disposition said on the ceremony on Sept. 23rd, “Some you the participants look familiar to me, but some are not. Yet I really expect everyone of you shall do a wonderful job in the expo. Then I shall have reason to introduce your pavilion to visitors and tell them that all your pavilions are excellent”.

Mr. Gao’s speech won warm applause from the audience. Mr. Daniel Barrios, director general of DEVNET pavilion delivered his inspiring speech afterwards. He highly praised DEVNET stuff for their excellent work with Mr. Gao’s lead. Then he introduced the activities and events to be carried out during the world expo, including 10 theme preliminary meetings and roundtable meetings co-sponsored by DEVNET, Special Unit for South-South Cooperation and related Chinese government. According to him, “World Expo means for China an excellent opportunity to share experience and learn about how the rest of the world are doing for improving their people livelihood conditions. But also World Expo will allow the tens of millions who will visit it to understand why China is now a days taking the centre of the stage.” He is full of confidence and expectation of Shanghai World Expo and believes that Shanghai world expo will become a milestone in the world expo history. “And to date in 2009 when the global financial crisis bring the greatest recession of the last 70 years, and China is becoming the locomotive of the global economy we may say that it is China which keep on its back the responsibility of overcome the recession and support the recovery of the world economy.” At the end of his speech, he introduced two Winner ambassdors, Ms. Nie Yan and Ms. Tamaoki Shoko and highly praised their effort and contribution to the development of women’s cause. He wished that they will continue to do their part with their wisdom and strenth.

Finally, commissioner general of DEVNET Pavilion Mr. Gao Guoqiang, executive director Mr Li Shien signed agreement of cooperation with representatives of interactive cities and companies. The ceremony reached its climax when representatives started proposing toast to everybody at present. Each participant showed high satisfaction with with banquet and highly praised the work of DEVNET Pavilion. They wish the carry out more cooperation and share the world expo together with DEVNET Pavilion.
